CPM-154 generally offers finer carbide distribution thanks to the powder metallurgy process, which can improve performance and sharpenability.

If you want proven steel without chasing the latest trend, these are still strong options.

S30V and S35VN

These steels became standard-bearers in enthusiast EDC for good reason. S30V offers strong edge retention and good corrosion resistance, though some users find it slightly more stubborn to sharpen. S35VN was designed to improve toughness and sharpening response while keeping premium wear resistance.

For many buyers, S35VN remains one of the most balanced premium stainless options on the market. It does a lot well without forcing major compromise.

MagnaCut
